Valvoline Global has entered into a partnership with U.S.-based design-build firm Gray to develop liquid cooling solutions for next-generation data centres, as rising computing densities and artificial intelligence workloads intensify thermal management requirements.

The collaboration combines Valvoline Global’s expertise in advanced cooling fluids with Gray’s capabilities in data centre design, engineering, and construction. Together, the companies aim to deliver an integrated solution that spans facility design and the deployment of liquid cooling technologies, including direct-to-chip and immersion cooling systems.

Valvoline Global said its cooling fluids are engineered to provide high thermal stability and dielectric performance in applications where efficient heat removal and equipment protection are essential. The company added that its research and development strength, along with its global supply network, is positioned to support data centre operators as adoption of liquid cooling accelerates.

Gray noted that its design-build model enables data centre owners to engage a single partner throughout the project lifecycle—from initial concept and engineering to construction and commissioning. This approach is intended to streamline delivery, reduce complexity, and shorten timelines as operators shift from conventional air-cooled facilities to liquid-cooled environments.

Both companies highlighted that liquid cooling is becoming increasingly necessary for high-performance computing applications, particularly artificial intelligence and machine learning, which generate substantially higher heat loads than traditional data centre equipment. The partnership will address both new data centre developments and retrofit projects.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The companies said the collaboration will initially focus on North America, with scope for expansion into other regions as demand for liquid-cooled data centre infrastructure continues to grow.
