TotalEnergies and Sinopec, two major players in the global energy market, have considerably strengthened their collaboration by signing a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at advancing low-carbon energy solutions. This agreement was signed in Paris, France, where TotalEnergies is headquartered, during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

It highlights the deepened commitment between the French and Chinese energy leaders to leverage their combined expertise in sectors such as biofuels, green hydrogen, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS).
TotalEnergies and Sinopec have collaborated for years across various fields, including oil and LNG trading, engineering, and particularly in upstream operations in Angola and Brazil. More recently, they have embarked on developing a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in China, with an annual production capacity of 230,000 tons.
This new agreement aims to expand the scope of their partnership, focusing on research and development in emerging energy technologies essential for a decarbonized future. Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, expressed enthusiasm about enhancing their partnership with Sinopec, which coincides with TotalEnergies’ 100th anniversary. He emphasized their shared ambition to meet the growing global energy demands while building a sustainable energy framework for the future.
Dr. Ma Yongsheng, chairman of Sinopec, reflected on the longstanding cooperation between the two companies, noting that the strategic cooperation framework represents a new milestone. With this strengthened partnership, Sinopec and TotalEnergies aim to explore further opportunities in sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and other low-carbon technologies, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable and green growth within the industry.
