Tongyi and Lubrizol introduce diesel engine oils created by AI

2 Jul 2026

U.S.-based specialty chemicals company Lubrizol and China's Tongyi Petrochemical have introduced two new heavy-duty engine oils at Tongyi's 2026 Global Technology Conference: Titan King AI Low-Ash Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil and Titan King Three-in-One Ultra-Low-Ash Synthetic Engine Oil.

U.S.-based specialty chemicals company Lubrizol and China's Tongyi Petrochemical have introduced two new heavy-duty engine oils at Tongyi's 2026 Global Technology Conference: Titan King AI Low-Ash Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil and Titan King Three-in-One Ultra-Low-Ash Synthetic Engine Oil.

The Titan King AI formulation is claimed to be the industry's first commercially available diesel engine oil developed entirely through an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven research and development (R&D) process. Meanwhile, the Titan King Three-in-One engine oil is the first lubricant designed to simultaneously meet the performance requirements of API CK-4, Cummins CES 20086, and China's newly introduced D1 national standard (GB 11122-2025).

Together, the two launches demonstrate the industry's transition from conventional, experience-based lubricant formulation toward a digital, computationally driven development approach powered by AI.

Lubrizol contributed nearly a century of lubricant formulation expertise, an extensive database of testing results, and advanced digital capabilities to support the development of these next-generation engine oils.

Henry Liu, Vice President, Asia Pacific, at Lubrizol, described the launch as a significant milestone in the company's global lubricant development strategy. He explained that combining Lubrizol's AI-enabled R&D platform with Tongyi's FluidMind intelligent agent platform has created a collaborative innovation framework that integrates data analytics, simulation, and engineering expertise. According to Liu, this approach accelerates product development, improves R&D efficiency, and provides a scalable pathway for building digital lubricant development capabilities, enabling the industry to move beyond regulatory compliance toward greater engineering confidence and performance validation.

From AI-Driven Development to Commercial Production

Titan King AI was developed using Lubrizol's proprietary AI research platform in conjunction with Tongyi's AI-native R&D agent, FluidMind. Lubrizol's platform digitally models friction, wear, and lubrication performance throughout an engine's operating life. The AI system was trained using millions of historical engine test records, additive molecular behaviour datasets, and lubricant degradation profiles collected under diverse operating conditions.

The development platform autonomously handled formulation design, virtual bench testing, and iterative optimisation. According to the companies, the AI-driven workflow reduced early-stage development time by approximately 75%, while comprehensive laboratory and real-world testing validated the product's durability, reliability, and performance.

The formulation contains less than 1% sulfated ash, helping minimise diesel particulate filter (DPF) blockage commonly associated with China VI diesel vehicles. AI-based engine simulations indicated a 40% reduction in oil consumption and a 30% decrease in deposit formation. The product meets the performance requirements of API CI-4, API SL, and ACEA E7, and is available in SAE 10W-40 viscosity grade for legacy diesel engines operating under China V and earlier emission standards.

Li Jia, Chief Executive Officer of Tongyi Petrochemical, said the product launches reflect the company's long-term commitment to AI-enabled lubricant R&D and the engineering implementation of China's D1 diesel engine oil standard. He noted that the commercialisation of Titan King AI demonstrates that AI-driven lubricant development has progressed beyond proof-of-concept to practical industrial application, while the Three-in-One formulation transforms the D1 standard from a technical framework into a validated engineering solution.

Integrating Three Performance Standards into One Engine Oil

The Titan King Three-in-One Ultra-Low-Ash Synthetic Engine Oil further extends AI-enabled development by integrating multiple performance standards within a single formulation through Tongyi's FluidMind AI platform.

The lubricant features an ultra-low sulfated ash content of below 0.6%, providing enhanced protection for exhaust aftertreatment systems required under the D1 standard while maintaining the extended drain capabilities of API CK-4 and the high-temperature nitration resistance needed for natural gas engines.

The formulation underwent extensive field validation, including 80,000 to 100,000 kilometres of testing in diesel-powered trucks from FAW Jiefang and Sinotruk, as well as 40,000 to 60,000 kilometres of testing in natural gas-powered vehicles from Foton Auman and FAW Jiefang. According to the companies, engine testing also demonstrated a 70% reduction in oil consumption.

Lubrizol and Tongyi stated that they will continue advancing AI-enabled lubricant innovation while supporting broader adoption of China's D1 standard across commercial transportation applications.
