Tata Passenger Electric Mobility and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation have forged an agreement to bolster the availability of public EV charging stations across India, leveraging Tata's expertise in EVs and HPCL's widespread fuel station network.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) has announced a collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) to boost the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across India. This partnership will harness HPCL's expansive fuel station network and TPEM's wealth of experience with over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs in India to establish public charging stations at high-traffic locations. Additionally, the companies are developing a co-branded RFID card for seamless payment at these designated sites. With Tata commanding a 68 percent market share in India's EV market and HPCL aiming to deploy 5,000 EV charging stations by December 2024, this collaboration is poised to significantly impact the EV landscape.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, remarked, "As EV adoption grows, the availability of reliable and widespread charging infrastructure becomes increasingly crucial in mainstreaming EVs in India. This strategic partnership with HPCL underscores our commitment to advancing India's EV ecosystem, where the expansion of charging infrastructure plays a pivotal role. This collaboration is vital for facilitating infrastructure development to accommodate the expanding EV customer base. By leveraging TPEM's extensive insights into EV usage and HPCL's extensive nationwide network, this partnership has the potential to revolutionize the charging infrastructure landscape in the country."

Debashis Chakraverty, Chief General Manager of Retail Strategy & Business Development at HPCL, stated, "With over 21,000 fuel stations nationwide, HPCL has forged an alliance with Tata Motors, which holds a commanding 68 percent market share in the Indian EV market. This partnership allows HPCL to utilize Tata Motors' extensive vehicle base to facilitate our strategic expansion in EV charging infrastructure, particularly in areas with high charging demand. By doing so, we aim to alleviate range anxiety among EV customers."
