Summit and Infinium Collaborate to Boost eFuels Production and Carbon Capture

11 Feb 2025

Summit Carbon Solutions and Infinium have announced a strategic partnership to supply up to 670,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) annually for a proposed eFuels facility in North or South Dakota. Through Summit's carbon capture and pipeline network, Infinium will gain access to a reliable CO₂ supply, essential for producing ultra-low carbon eFuels.

These synthetic fuels, created by combining captured CO₂ with green hydrogen, are designed for use in aviation, shipping, and heavy transport, expanding domestic energy production and increasing the availability of sustainable fuels for both U.S. and international markets.

The proposed Infinium eFuels facility in the Midwest is expected to drive significant investment in state and local economies, create high-paying skilled jobs, and offer new market opportunities for U.S. ethanol producers and farmers. Robert Schuetzle, CEO of Infinium, emphasized the importance of securing reliable and scalable CO₂ sources to meet the rising demand for eFuels, stating that Summit's infrastructure would supply the CO₂ needed to scale production and advance eFuels as a key part of America's energy future.

This partnership demonstrates how CO₂ infrastructure can drive energy independence and enable new markets for ethanol producers, farmers, and rural communities. Lee Blank, CEO of Summit Carbon Solutions, highlighted that by providing a reliable CO₂ supply, they are helping unlock opportunities that support domestic energy production and economic growth.

Infinium develops ultra-low carbon synthetic fuels and innovative gas conversion solutions, supporting companies such as Amazon, American Airlines, and Borealis. The company was the first to produce commercial volumes of power-to-liquid eFuels and continues to lead in clean energy innovation.

Summit Carbon Solutions is building the world's largest carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, connecting industrial facilities across the Midwest to safely and permanently store CO₂, enhancing economic opportunities for ethanol producers and farmers.
