Petronas Lubricants International China (PLI China) is looking to capture further opportunities in the paper and packaging industries after entering into a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Qingliang Industrial Co., Ltd.

Qingliang, which specialises in the manufacture of papermaking machinery, has an established customer base spanning Asia and Europe. The partnership is expected to give PLI greater access to equipment manufacturers and end users as demand for paper, packaging and tissue production continues to rise.

The agreement was concluded in Shanghai on 31 July, with Yin Pang Lim (Ross), PLI’s business head for Asia, and Chen Kai, Qingliang’s general manager, representing the two companies. The deal follows ongoing discussions between the companies that began more than a year ago, following a visit by PLI Industrial Managing Director Uday Kumar.

Under the arrangement, PLI will provide lubrication products and technical solutions for Qingliang’s papermaking equipment. Qingliang will also introduce PLI lubricants to customers around the world, identify potential projects and assist with lubricant initial-fill requirements.

A further benefit for customers will be an extended 180-day bearing warranty when PLI lubricants are used, providing additional support for equipment operating in demanding production environments.

PLI said the cooperation would allow it to become involved earlier in customer projects and strengthen its access to new commercial opportunities. The company sees Qingliang’s international reach as an important platform for expanding its industrial lubricants business.

The two companies are also set to pursue further joint initiatives, including customer engagement programmes, technical training and market development efforts. Through these activities, the partnership aims to support equipment reliability and operating efficiency while broadening the use of lubrication solutions across the paper industry.
