Middle East trading joint venture established by TotalEnergies and Bapco Energies

TotalEnergies and Bapco Energies have announced the formation of BxT Trading, a new 50:50 joint venture dedicated to the trading of petroleum products across the Middle East.

The venture will be backed by supply flows from Bapco Energies’ refinery and is designed to reinforce Bahrain’s downstream value chain while improving access to international markets. BxT Trading will function as a regional trading hub, integrating local production with global market connectivity.

Under the partnership, Bapco Energies will leverage TotalEnergies’ extensive trading capabilities, including pricing intelligence, market analysis, and risk management expertise. The initiative is expected to enhance the commercial performance of Bahrain’s refining operations and accelerate the development of sophisticated trading functions.

For TotalEnergies, BxT Trading further strengthens its trading footprint in the Middle East, complementing its established global trading centers in Houston, Geneva, and Singapore. The company noted that the joint venture will enable faster responses to regional market conditions and support its broader trading strategy.

The signing ceremony took place in Abu Dhabi and was attended by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bapco Energies, and Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies.

While financial details were not disclosed, the venture is expected to enhance Bahrain’s position in global petroleum markets and align with the country’s wider energy development objectives.
