Maruti Suzuki India Limited has secured a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for its e VITARA electric SUV, marking the company’s fourth consecutive top rating under India’s national vehicle safety assessment programme.
The certification was presented by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, who recognised the e VITARA as India’s first electric SUV to achieve a five-star Bharat NCAP rating. He highlighted Maruti Suzuki’s decision to equip all variants with seven airbags as standard, including a driver’s knee airbag.
With this achievement, the e VITARA joins Maruti Suzuki’s expanding lineup of five-star Bharat NCAP-rated models, which includes the All-New Dzire, VICTORIS, and INVICTO. The electric SUV underwent the assessment voluntarily, underlining the company’s emphasis on high safety standards.
The e VITARA is built on Suzuki’s new HEARTECT-e platform, developed specifically for electric vehicles. Its structure incorporates more than 60% ultra-high tensile and high-tensile strength steel, along with advanced battery protection supported by an energy-absorbing mounting design.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said the company plans to export the e VITARA to over 100 countries, supported by its Bharat NCAP certification. The Made-in-India model is engineered to operate reliably in extreme temperature conditions ranging from –30°C to 60°C.
Safety features include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring. The vehicle is also equipped with Electronic Stability Program, hill hold control, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, and multi-collision braking.
The e VITARA is offered with two battery options—49 kWh and 61 kWh—delivering strong performance and extended driving range. Standard features across all variants include a 360-degree surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and an emergency SOS call function.
Bharat NCAP, which follows globally benchmarked crash-test protocols, assesses both adult and child occupant protection. The e VITARA achieved top scores in both categories, reflecting its comprehensive safety performance across multiple crash scenarios.
