Lubrizol has expanded the technical capabilities of its Southeast Asia Innovation Center in Jurong, Singapore, by introducing new facilities for synthesis, analytical science and physical sciences. Announced on October 5, the development builds on the centre’s existing application, formulation and technical testing infrastructure, enabling the specialty chemicals company to respond more effectively to evolving regional requirements and accelerate customer-driven product development.

Alongside the laboratory expansion, Lubrizol has introduced its Learning Labs programme in Singapore. The initiative forms part of the company’s global science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education efforts, offering students practical learning experiences, mentorship and opportunities to explore careers in science and engineering. Since its global launch in 2025, the programme has reached more than 12,000 students through over 50 STEM activities worldwide.

Developed with support from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the Jurong facility forms an integral part of Lubrizol’s international innovation network. The centre brings together research laboratories, testing infrastructure, interactive experience zones and dedicated technical training spaces to encourage scientific advancement and closer collaboration with customers. Its expanded capabilities will support innovation across several sectors, including energy storage, coatings, electronics, packaging, life sciences and healthcare.

Julie Edgar, chief technology officer at Lubrizol, highlighted the importance of combining scientific expertise with speed and market understanding. She noted that the enhanced infrastructure will help the company develop commercially relevant solutions, address increasingly complex customer requirements and shorten the journey from research to market adoption.

Henry Liu, vice president for Asia Pacific at Lubrizol, emphasised the complementary roles of technological innovation and talent development in driving sustainable growth. He said the launch of Learning Labs in Singapore reflects the company’s ambition to encourage young people to pursue careers in science, engineering and problem-solving. Together with its regional laboratory network, these investments reinforce Lubrizol’s long-term commitment to Singapore as a centre for innovation, collaboration and skills development.

The announcement event was attended by Lim Wey-Len, executive vice president of EDB, who served as guest of honour. Lubrizol’s senior leadership team, including president and chief executive officer Rebecca Liebert, Henry Liu and Julie Edgar, also participated alongside company employees, customers and industry partners.

Lim said the expansion demonstrates Lubrizol’s confidence in Singapore’s innovation ecosystem and its potential to connect the company with customers across the region. He also highlighted the Learning Labs programme’s role in developing future talent for Singapore’s specialty chemicals industry, adding that EDB looks forward to strengthening its partnership with Lubrizol to create new growth opportunities and advance innovation for Asia and global markets.
