LANXESS and China-based Wuxi South Petroleum Additive Co. have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore potential collaboration in the lubricant additives sector, with the objective of enhancing supply chain capabilities across China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

LANXESS and China-based Wuxi South Petroleum Additive Co. have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore potential collaboration in the lubricant additives sector, with the objective of enhancing supply chain capabilities across China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

The agreement, signed on September 18 at LANXESS headquarters in Cologne, Germany, establishes a framework for the two companies to assess opportunities across selected segments of the lubricant additives value chain. The proposed partnership is expected to focus on regional manufacturing, supply chain resilience and stronger customer support.

Under the framework, LANXESS would contribute its expertise in lubricant additive formulations, technology and market reach, while Wuxi South would leverage its manufacturing infrastructure and established regional supply network.

“Asia-Pacific is an important market for the lubricant industry and a key growth region for LANXESS,” said Frederique van Baarle, Member of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG. She added that the agreement reflects the company's focus on providing customers with reliable and high-quality solutions.

The proposed collaboration comes as lubricant customers across the region increasingly seek locally available products, faster delivery timelines and greater security of supply. By combining their respective capabilities, the companies intend to examine ways of improving regional availability and responding more effectively to evolving market requirements.

“Customers increasingly value local supply, short lead times and dependable product availability,” said Neelanjan Banerjee, Senior Vice President and Global Head of the Lubricant Additives business unit at LANXESS. “Together with Wuxi South, we will assess opportunities to further strengthen our regional supply network and support future growth across China and the Asia-Pacific region.”

For Wuxi South, the MoU creates an opportunity to evaluate a wider range of potential cooperation with LANXESS in lubricant additives and associated value chains. The Chinese company is expected to bring its production capabilities and regional market presence to the discussions.

“We are pleased to enter this cooperation framework with LANXESS,” said Ruxing Miao, General Manager of Wuxi South. “The MoU provides a basis to explore areas where both companies can contribute their respective strengths and create value for customers throughout the region.”

The agreement is exploratory in nature and does not establish a definitive commercial partnership between the companies. Instead, it provides a platform for further discussions covering potential technical, commercial and supply-chain opportunities.

The initiative reflects the broader shift among lubricant and specialty chemical companies toward strengthening regional supply networks and increasing local manufacturing capabilities in response to changing customer requirements across Asia-Pacific.
