Shell Lubricants and Hyundai Motor Company have signed a fresh five-year extension of their long-running global partnership, continuing a business relationship that dates back to 2005. Announced in Seoul on August 19, 2026, this marks the fifth time the two companies have renewed their agreement, which spans joint work on product development, racing technology, and after-sales services.

Under the new terms, Shell will continue as Hyundai's officially recommended provider of after-sales lubricants worldwide. The two firms will keep developing advanced lubricant technologies together and supporting Hyundai's high-performance vehicle lineups. They also intend to broaden their joint efforts in service marketing programs aimed at boosting customer satisfaction and cementing their standing in major after-sales markets.

As part of the deal, Shell will continue providing its premium Helix engine oil line to Hyundai customers globally. The company notes it has held the top spot among finished-lubricant suppliers worldwide for 19 straight years, a ranking based on Kline & Company's 2025 global lubricants market report (23rd edition).

Lee Ming Seow, Shell Lubricants' vice president for global key accounts and new business development, described the partnership as one that has spanned over twenty years of joint innovation, performance gains, and customer value, noting that insights gained from motorsports have been applied to real-world lubricant products. He added that going forward, the companies plan to deepen their work in areas like next-generation e-fluids, thermal management systems, digital tools, and high-performance mobility solutions, combining strengths to improve efficiency and sustainability for Hyundai customers everywhere.

Beom Seok Kang, senior vice president and head of Hyundai's global service sub-division, expressed satisfaction at extending the alliance, pointing to how their joint after-sales marketing efforts have strengthened Hyundai's global service competitiveness and customer satisfaction through quality engine oil supply. He suggested the partnership positions both companies to adapt more effectively to shifts in the mobility sector while continuing to build customer value and long-term competitive strength.

The collaboration reaches beyond standard after-sales work. Shell has also broadened its ties with Genesis, Hyundai's luxury division, taking on the role of Performance and Innovation Partner for Genesis Magma Racing as it enters its first season in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Additionally, Shell has sponsored the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team since 2014, using the rally program as a proving ground for technologies under extreme racing conditions—insights from which feed back into consumer lubricant development. The companies have also partnered within Hyundai's N performance division to jointly engineer lubricants suited for high-performance combustion engines and electric vehicles, giving Shell a real-world testing platform and a showcase for performance-oriented customers.

Shell characterized this renewal as the next phase of a partnership that has grown in step with the auto industry over more than twenty years.
