Honda achieves a significant milestone in sustainable transportation with the introduction of the 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV, marking the inaugural production of a plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) in the Americas. This innovative compact crossover utility vehicle (CUV) integrates a pioneering U.S.-manufactured fuel cell system with plug-in charging capabilities, offering a remarkable 270-mile EPA driving range and up to 29 miles of pure electric driving. Mamadou Diallo, senior vice president of Auto Sales at American Honda Motor Co., emphasizes Honda's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050 through the launch of the CR-V e:FCEV, which is a key component of the company's electrification efforts.
The CR-V e:FCEV, set to be available for leasing in California later this year, demonstrates Honda's longstanding expertise in hydrogen fuel cell technology, which dates back to the introduction of the Honda FCX in 2002 — the world's first zero-emission FCEV certified for daily use. Manufactured at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio, the CR-V e:FCEV is the only passenger FCEV produced in America. It introduces the second-generation Honda Fuel Cell Module, co-developed with General Motors, showcasing significant advancements in durability, efficiency, and cost reduction, setting a new benchmark for fuel cell technology.
Loaded with standard features, including HondaLink® for real-time hydrogen station information and the ability to power small home appliances with clean energy, the CR-V e:FCEV offers both functionality and sustainability. Sporting a bold and sophisticated design distinct from its turbo and hybrid counterparts, the vehicle features aerodynamic enhancements for optimized performance. The interior continues Honda's tradition of clean, high-quality design, offering a spacious and comfortable environment with advanced technology and sustainable materials. As a single, well-equipped Touring model, the CR-V e:FCEV includes a suite of premium features such as digital instrumentation, HD touchscreen, wireless connectivity, and the Honda Sensing® suite of safety technologies, ensuring a safe, enjoyable driving experience.
Honda's commitment to a carbon-neutral society extends beyond FCEVs, with plans to expand its hydrogen business to include commercial vehicles, stationary power stations, and construction machinery. This dedication underscores Honda's "Triple Action to Zero" approach, focusing on carbon neutrality, resource circulation, and clean energy utilization across all products and corporate activities, demonstrating its innovative solutions towards a sustainable future.
