Castrol has unveiled Castrol CORE, a comprehensive thermal management solution developed to address the growing cooling demands of data centres driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing. The launch took place in Singapore on 29 September, marking a strategic expansion of the company’s role in the data centre cooling sector.
Unlike conventional product-focused offerings, Castrol CORE adopts a service-oriented model that covers the entire data centre lifecycle, from initial planning and design to installation, commissioning, ongoing operations and maintenance. By bringing together product suppliers, infrastructure specialists, design experts and service partners, the initiative aims to simplify thermal management through a unified point of contact.
The new offering reflects Castrol’s response to industry requirements for more integrated cooling solutions. According to the company’s research, data centre operators are increasingly looking for ways to streamline coordination between multiple technology providers, address supply chain uncertainties and minimise the financial risks associated with equipment failures and operational disruptions.
At the heart of Castrol CORE are the company’s cooling technologies, which Castrol says have undergone testing and validation with major chip and hardware manufacturers, including NVIDIA and Intel. Its technical capabilities are supported by testing and technology laboratories in the UK, the United States, Germany and China, alongside collaborative laboratories across Asia. A global service network spanning more than 150 countries enables on-site testing, performance validation and continuous monitoring throughout a facility’s operational life, helping operators mitigate the risk of expensive downtime.
Peter Huang, global president of data centre and thermal management at Castrol, said the industry needs comprehensive support rather than isolated products. He highlighted the importance of combining established cooling technologies, international service capabilities and specialised design expertise to address customer requirements at every stage of a data centre project.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Castrol has established a dedicated data centre design team complemented by local technical specialists. The company has also completed a proof-of-concept initiative with a major data centre operator in China and is pursuing further pilot projects with international operators.
Initially, Castrol CORE will concentrate on cooling applications within data centres. However, the platform is intended to support the expansion of Castrol’s thermal management capabilities into additional applications in the future. Drawing on more than 127 years of experience in developing fluids for mission-critical environments, Castrol aims to strengthen its position as a solutions partner for the evolving thermal management needs of digital infrastructure.
