Asperitas and Shell extend their collaboration on immersion cooling

Shell plc and Dutch immersion cooling specialist Asperitas have renewed their partnership through a formal Recommended Partner designation, extending a collaboration that began in 2019. Shell Ventures also holds an equity stake in Asperitas.

The renewal, announced on 3 March 2026, confirms the continuation of technical cooperation between the two companies within a framework described as explicitly non-exclusive. Under this arrangement, Asperitas will retain reseller rights for Shell’s immersion cooling fluids as part of its commercial portfolio. In addition, Shell’s fluids will continue to be used in Asperitas’ laboratories for product development, testing, and system validation.

Rutger de Halj, CEO of Asperitas, said the renewed partnership highlights a shared commitment to delivering validated, high-performance liquid cooling technologies for data centres and edge computing environments, while maintaining an open and flexible ecosystem.

Jason Wong, Executive Vice President of Global Lubricants at Shell, noted that the collaboration brings together Asperitas’ engineering expertise with Shell’s advanced fluid technologies to support customers seeking scalable and energy-efficient digital infrastructure solutions.

As part of the extended agreement, both companies will continue to collaborate with original equipment manufacturers and other ecosystem partners on technical enablement, validation frameworks, and system-level integration. While Shell’s Recommended Partner status within Asperitas’ partner framework has been reaffirmed, the open-ecosystem structure means that neither company is tied to an exclusive arrangement.
