Aramco and Idemitsu execute a global base oil account framework agreement

Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. has entered into a Global Account Framework Agreement with Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) covering the supply and cooperation in lubricating base oils.

Saudi Aramco maintains a strong global base oil presence through its downstream affiliates, including Luberef in Saudi Arabia, Motiva Enterprises in the United States, and S-Oil in South Korea.

Headquartered in Tokyo, Idemitsu stated that the agreement is designed to build a more resilient, flexible, and stable base oil procurement framework while reinforcing its global sales operations for high-value lubricant products.

The company noted that demand for premium, high-value-added lubricants is expected to continue rising, driven by increasing environmental regulations, sustainability initiatives, and energy-efficiency requirements across industries.

The agreement seeks to further strengthen collaboration between the two companies in the base oil segment. Base oils typically account for 70–90% of a finished lubricant formulation, depending on its application.

Idemitsu added that it has steadily deepened its relationship with the Saudi Aramco Group through base oil procurement, and the new framework will help unlock additional growth opportunities and broaden areas of cooperation.

As part of its broader strategy, Idemitsu plans to accelerate initiatives within its lubricants business and contribute to industrial development both in Japan and internationally. The company is Japan’s largest lubricant manufacturer by domestic sales volume and ranks among the top ten lubricant producers worldwide.
