A US based lubricant marketer AMSOIL recently launched its new 0W-40 viscosity grade synthetic motor oil. The 100% Synthetic motor oils now comprise of 0W-16, 0W-20, 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30 and 0W-40 viscosities.
So, this 0W-40 has obtained an API SP and SN Plus license from the American Petroleum Institute (API). SP is the latest gasoline engine oil standard and SN is a category developed to address specific issues related to engine oils in turbocharged direct injection (TGDI) gasoline engines.
As per Superior, Wisconsin-based company OE 0W-40 is primarily formulated for newer RAM heavy-duty trucks featuring the Chrysler 6.4L HEMI engine, and provides exceptional wear protection, fuel economy and emissions control benefits over extended drain intervals. The Chrysler 6.4L HEMI engine also known as the 392 HEMI, is a V8 engine produced by Chrysler, with powerful performance and use of advanced technology. HEMI stands for hemispherical combustion chambers that the engine uses, a design that allows for efficient airflow and combustion.
It has shown a remarkable 47% improvement in the wear protection during the Peugeot TU3M Wear Test, a requirement in the General Motors dexos1 Gen 2 specification. It gives 100% protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) events, a common occurrence in certain turbocharged direct-injection vehicles during high-load low-speed driving conditions. It is also compatible with modern emissions-control systems, ensuring optimal catalytic converter operation and minimising exhaust emissions.
