SK Innovation and LG Electronics have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop integrated energy solutions for AI data centres, leveraging SK’s expertise in power management and LG’s advanced cooling technologies. The agreement, finalized on 17 September 2025, covers collaboration on research and development, pilot projects, Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) models, and waste heat utilisation.
The partnership highlights the increasing need for energy-efficient solutions as data centres experience growing demand driven by AI applications. SK Innovation will focus on optimising power supply, deploying AI-driven data centre management systems, and developing auxiliary power solutions, including energy storage systems and fuel cells. LG Electronics will contribute its cutting-edge cooling technologies, such as direct chip cooling, water- and air-cooled inverter chillers, and advanced control systems.
Kim Moo-hwan, Head of SK Innovation’s Energy Solution Business Division, stated that the collaboration positions both companies as turnkey providers of integrated energy solutions for data centres. Lee Jae-sung, Head of LG Electronics’ ES Business Division, added that the agreement enhances competitiveness in the global AI data centre market by combining efficiency-focused and cost-reducing technologies.
This partnership builds on SK Innovation’s previous collaboration with Singapore’s Bridge Data Centres, reflecting its ambition to become a comprehensive energy solutions provider for data centres worldwide.
