FUCHS Silkolene introduces a zero-carbon motorcycle oil made from plants

12 Apr 2026

FUCHS Silkolene has launched what it describes as the first mass-market, plant-based motorcycle engine oil with a net-zero carbon footprint—Silkolene PRO 4 5W-40.
Pronounced “zero,” the new product expands the brand’s fully synthetic PRO range and is formulated using 100% renewable, plant-derived synthetic base oils developed through the Advanced Circular Technology (ACT) by FUCHS Group. The oil meets key industry standards, including API SP/SQ and JASO MA2.

Performance Without Compromise

According to FUCHS Silkolene, its in-house formulation team focused on maintaining the high-performance characteristics associated with the PRO range. The company states that the sustainable formulation delivers strong engine protection, power output, and clutch performance without compromise. Additionally, the oil is classified as non-hazardous, contributing to a lower overall environmental impact.

Sustainable Formulation Approach

The ACT platform utilises newly developed renewable base oils rather than recycled oils. The company highlights that this distinction is key to achieving a reduced carbon footprint, as it differs from formulations based on re-refined base oil (RRBO).

Availability and Packaging

The product is now available across the UK through authorised distributors, packaged in 100% recycled one-litre plastic bottles, further reinforcing its sustainability credentials.

Manufacturing and Sustainability Initiatives

The launch is part of a broader sustainability strategy at FUCHS’s production facility in Stoke-on-Trent. The site features more than 2,000 solar panels and has seen continuous investment over the past decade in manufacturing efficiency, warehousing, and safety improvements.

Joost van Genderen, Global Head of the Motorcycle Division at FUCHS, noted that significant upgrades to production speed, infrastructure, and energy efficiency at the facility have laid the groundwork for developing more sustainable products. He added that the launch of this oil represents a natural progression in the company’s efforts, positioning FUCHS Silkolene at the forefront of sustainable innovation in motorcycle lubricants.
