Deutsche Infineum GmbH & Co. KG and RheinEnergie AG have entered into agreements to develop an 18-megawatt ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) plant at Infineum’s production site in Cologne, Germany.
The solar installation is projected to generate approximately 18 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually and is slated for commissioning in 2027.

According to the companies, around 25,300 solar modules—each with a capacity of 710 watts—will be deployed across nearly 12 hectares along Neusser Landstraße. The facility is expected to produce surplus electricity sufficient to supply several thousand households each year.

Infineum highlighted that the project will significantly reduce CO₂ emissions at its Cologne manufacturing site compared with conventional grid-based electricity.

Stephan Segbers, Member of the Board at RheinEnergie, noted that the project represents a strong commitment to Cologne’s industrial future and demonstrates how renewable energy solutions can effectively support the decarbonisation of local businesses.

Dr. Martin Halama, Managing Director at Infineum, and Plant Manager Dr. Thiemo Dunkel emphasized that the collaboration with RheinEnergie marks a key milestone in the Cologne site’s decarbonisation roadmap and aligns with Infineum’s 2030 Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas reduction targets.

Emil Issagholian, Head of Energy Services and District Heating at RheinEnergie, described the initiative as a flagship example of how climate objectives and commercial priorities can be successfully aligned, adding that full-service energy contracting makes industrial decarbonisation both technically achievable and economically sustainable.
