Castrol has unveiled a comprehensive fluid management service tailored for liquid-cooled data centres, marking a major leap toward broader adoption of this high-efficiency cooling technology.
Announced at the Datacloud Global Congress 2025 in Cannes, France, the service addresses key operational hurdles encountered by data centre operators shifting from traditional air-based systems. Castrol’s end-to-end approach supports every phase of a data centre’s lifecycle, including system start-up, routine maintenance, emergency response, and environmentally responsible fluid disposal.
Peter Huang, Global VP of Data Centre Thermal Management at Castrol, emphasized that although liquid cooling offers clear performance advantages, operators often hesitate due to concerns around long-term fluid handling. Drawing on its decades-long expertise in automotive fluid servicing, Castrol aims to provide structured, reliable lifecycle support for data centres.
The service is structured into four key components:
System start-up: Includes fluid installation, flushing, filtration, and certification
Ongoing maintenance: Encompasses predictive analytics, lab testing, dynamic monitoring, and smart fluid dosing
Break-fix response: Offers virtual and on-site engineering support, as well as emergency fluid supply
Disposal: Covers end-of-life fluid collection with an eco-friendly approach
This initiative comes at a time when demand for efficient thermal management is soaring—driven by the rise of AI, machine learning, and edge computing. In fact, 74% of industry professionals now regard immersion cooling as critical to managing high heat loads.
Andrea Zunino, Castrol’s Global Offer Development Manager, pointed out that cooling fluids are often a system’s weakest link. The new offering not only safeguards fluid quality but also delivers proactive services to minimize downtime and enhance performance.
Castrol plans to roll out the service globally through its network of partners, with availability dependent on regional infrastructure and partner capabilities.
