Mahindra enlarges its R&D center in Chennai to accommodate next-generation platforms

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) has announced a major expansion of its Advanced Research and Development Centre and testing infrastructure at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. The company will invest approximately INR 1.96 billion (USD 23.2 million) to further strengthen its engineering and testing capabilities.

The company will invest approximately INR 1.96 billion (USD 23.2 million) to further strengthen its engineering and testing capabilities.


The expansion is designed to enhance MRV’s capacity for advanced vehicle design, product engineering, and the development of next-generation technologies. The upgraded infrastructure will support new platforms across multiple vehicle segments, with operations expected to commence within the current calendar year.


The ground-breaking ceremony took place in Chennai in the presence of M. K. Stalin and T. R. B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotions and Commerce.


Upon completion, the expanded facility is expected to generate around 2,000 additional engineering and technical jobs. MRV currently employs over 5,000 professionals at its 125-acre campus.

R Velusamy, President – Automotive Business at Mahindra, stated that the investment reinforces the company’s commitment to strengthening India’s product engineering ecosystem and enhancing global competitiveness.


He emphasized that the expansion reflects Mahindra’s long-term focus on advancing engineering excellence in India, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, and delivering world-class products to customers globally. He further noted that MRV will continue to function as a global innovation hub for future-ready mobility solutions.


Established in 2012, Mahindra Research Valley serves as the primary R&D centre for the group’s automotive and farm businesses. Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group is a multinational federation comprising 324,000 employees and operating in over 100 countries worldwide.
