ACDelco, the aftermarket automotive products brand of General Motors, has re-entered the Indian market through a licensing partnership with Assurance International Limited. As part of the agreement, Assurance International plans to invest about ₹300 crore in establishing a battery manufacturing facility over the next three years.

The company has already invested approximately ₹180 crore in a lubricant manufacturing plant located in Hisar, Haryana. The facility has a production capacity of around 100,000 litres of lubricants per day. In addition, a battery manufacturing plant is also being developed in Hisar, which is expected to reach a production capacity of 25,000 units per day once fully operational. Battery manufacturing operations are scheduled to begin next month.

Mukesh Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Assurance International Limited, explained that the arrangement is based on a licensing model. Under this agreement, the company will manufacture, market, and sell ACDelco product lines in India. Manufacturing will be carried out with technical collaboration and oversight from ACDelco, which will supervise product quality and standards, while marketing and sales activities will be managed by Assurance International using its own manufacturing infrastructure.

Product portfolio

The initial product range will include automotive batteries and a portfolio of high-performance lubricants designed for both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles operating under Indian driving conditions. The company also plans to expand the product portfolio in the future to include components such as wiper blades and oil filters.

According to the company, localised manufacturing will help maintain competitive pricing while preserving the global quality standards associated with the ACDelco brand. The products will be distributed through a multi-tier distribution network comprising distributors, retailers, and service workshops across major automotive markets in India.

Mahesh Ravindran, Country Lead – Commercial Operations at Chevrolet Sales India, stated that the relaunch of ACDelco batteries and lubricants in India through an official licensing arrangement aligns with the company’s global aftermarket brand strategy. He added that Assurance International’s operational capabilities and strong understanding of the local market create a solid foundation for expanding the ACDelco brand in the country.
